How long do vinyl shutters last

Yasmeen 11/13/2020 4:07:47 PM Ask Yasmeen, Benefits of Shutters

Plantation shutters are hands down the longest lasting window treatments. Plantation shutters are an investment in your home and will outlast any curtains, blinds or shades while offering privacy, style, and increasing property value.

How long do vinyl shutters last?

Our shutters all have a 3-year (36 month) warranty against any manufacturing defects. However plantation shutters often last 10+ years and are a long-term fixture in your home.

The Shutter Store Promise

Our quality materials and manufacturing process ensure the structural integrity and longevity of your shutters.

With our wooden shutters and vinyl shutters made of 100% solid materials, they will easily stand the test of time.

Our wooden shutter ranges are made of 100% solid poplar wood or elm wood, never composite shutters (which are made of pressed, wooden particles and will not be as durable).

Our polyvinyl shutters are solid polyvinyl reinforced with an aluminum core to increase the stability and longevity of your shutters.

We use multiple layers of paint or stain, a minimum 7 layers for a long-lasting smooth color finish that will not fade, yellow, peel or crack over time. The paint is mixed with UV protectant, and all shutters are finished with a sealant to help them withstand high heat and direct sunlight.

Our website will only provide you appropriate choices for panel configuration, based on the size of your window, to ensure the shutter panels are not too large to be well-supported and easy to operate.

For large window shutters, t-posts can split up the weight of the shutter panels and provide additional support for a long-lasting shutter.

Window shutter care and maintenance

A little TLC will ensure your plantation shutters last well beyond the warranty period.

All you need to clean your shutters is a duster or microfiber cloth. For wooden shutters it is important to keep the shutters dry and clear of any moisture or humidity. Vinyl shutters are waterproof, so be sure to select vinyl shutters in any damp or humid area.

How to keep your shutters looking like new

The shutter panels and slats only require a gentle nudge to open and close them, so there is no need to forceably pull or push the panels or slats open or closed. There are no stubborn strings or ties like with curtains or blinds.

To keep your shutters lasting well beyond the years of your warranty, some quick routine maintenance can keep your plantation shutters good as new.

For example, the slat tension can be adjusted easily by tightening the tension screws on the sides of each panel. Dislodged slats can be repaired with spring-loaded pins to pop them back into place.
