Bathroom Shutters

Looking for a window treatment that’s right for your bathroom? Shutters are the perfect solution. They’ll let in light while keeping the interior private, they’re hard wearing, and they’re stylish.

Bathroom shutters
Bathrooms can seem to present a challenge when it comes to dressing the window. Curtains or drapes won’t stand up to the steamy atmosphere, and the fabric can get in the way of the basin or bath, or intrude into the floor space making a compact room even smaller, and this functional room harder to move freely around in.

Are bathroom blinds the right choice?

If curtains aren’t a sound option for your bathroom window treatment, what about bathroom blinds? Wooden bathroom blinds can be warped by humidity, which means they won’t last. Some blind styles, meanwhile, only offer the option of having sections of the window covered or uncovered. This means blocking light entirely or compromising privacy – neither of which is desirable. Blinds can also be hard to clean, which is far from ideal in a room where hygiene is key.

So what’s the answer? Plantation shutters are the best dressing for bathroom windows. They’re elegant, practical and durable in even the steamiest family bathroom, and they're easy to care for.

Why are plantation shutters best for bathrooms?

With window shutters, both light and privacy control are guaranteed. Close them completely for total discretion and to shut out the night for a cocooning atmosphere when you’re having a long relaxing soak in the tub. You can tilt the slats open and let in just the amount of daylight you need plus control any glare from bright sunlight. Open the slats completely, and shutters boost daylight while keeping the interior of the room hidden from prying eyes.

There’s plenty of flexibility in shutter styles, too. Choose between full height shutters, which cover the entire window, or, if only the lower part of the window needs to be dressed, consider cafĂ© style shutters. These half-height shutters cover the bottom portion of the window to maintain bathroom users’ privacy and let all the daylight there is in through the top of the window – a configuration bathroom blinds just can’t provide.

Our recommendation? In the bathroom, we love the larger slats to maximize the light coming into the room, and to make keeping them clean even speedier.

What makes bathroom shutters so durable and waterproof?

Coverings like bathroom blinds and drapes can warp or become mildewed and need replacement to keep the atmosphere of the room healthy and the window properly dressed. Unlike these, our shutters – which are made from 100% hardwoods – can cope with everything the humid atmosphere of a bathroom throws at them, and are made to last.

Window treatment likely to get wet regularly because it’s near the shower? Kids splash in the tub, and splash the window, too? Shutters can still solve your bathroom window dressing dilemma. For these situations we offer vinyl shutters and faux wood shutters. They look and feel like wood but are 100% waterproof. Opt for them and you won’t have to worry about warping or shrinking of the window treatment however humid the room.

How easy is it to keep bathroom window shutters clean?

A bathroom that’s clean is essential, but no one wants to spend unnecessary time on keeping it that way, so ease of care is key. The choice of window dressing can mean the difference between speedy, effective cleaning and a time-consuming effort with poor results.

Plantation shutters are a breeze to look after. Because our shutters are made from 100% hardwoods, and our 100% waterproof shutters from vinyl, they won’t attract dirt in the first place, making life easier. Meanwhile, to keep them pristine, all they require is a quick wipe. It’s quick, and means you can rest assured that the window treatment in your bathroom is as clean as the rest of the fittings.

Is it easy to control light with shutters?

Shutters for bathrooms also give you total control of the light. Close them completely for full privacy, open them fully for maximum light, or go for something in between. When you want a relaxing bath, just tilt the slats to let in a small amount of light and enjoy the spa-like ambience.

When it comes to slat sizes, we recommend you go for a larger slat size in your bathroom. Although it’s tempting to go for something smaller, larger slats give you the full shutter effect, and let in more light.

Our 100% hardwood shutters can cope with a lot, but if your window gets a daily shower, or your bathroom is very humid, our waterproof shutters might be the best option.

These vinyl shutters look and feel like wood, but are designed to be 100% waterproof. Which means, if you’re partial to a long soak, you don’t ever have to worry about warping or shrinking your shutters.

Question iconCommon questions answered

Are waterproof shutters essential in bathrooms?

Our painted wooden shutters are hardwearing, which means they’ll work in most bathrooms. However, if you have a wetroom, or your shower is close to the window, our vinyl shutters are a good option.

Why are plantation shutters good for a bathroom?

Traditional bathroom window coverings like venetian blinds or bathroom shades can get damp and mildewed in a humid room. Shutters however are hardwearing, easy to clean and offer a level of privacy without blocking out the light.
