Why Choose Solid Raised or Shaker Style Shutters?

Yasmeen 3/26/2021 9:13:24 AM Benefits of Shutters, Shutter Styles
Louvered plantation shutters are great for controlling how much light enters a room and have moving slats that can be raised and lowered for increased privacy or light blockage as needed. However, if you are looking for shutters that block the most amount of light, provide the most privacy, insulation, and noise reduction, solid panel shutters may be the way to go!

Or perhaps you are looking to do a project like a closet, cabinet door, or something other than a window covering, and the style of our full solid panel shutters would be ideal.

What are Solid Raised Panel and Solid Shaker Shutters?

Solid raised panel shutters are made of our 100% solid poplar wood, with a beveled design separating the raised panel insert from the side stiles and the top & bottom rails of the shutter.
We also offer full solid shaker style shutters by special request, which still have a distinct panel insert in the middle of the shutter, but it is flush around the edges for cleaner lines and a simpler profile.  For flat solid shaker style, simply note this in the special notes box when placing your under in the solid raised section of our online shop.

Functional Benefits and Style Options

Solid panel shutters are great for bedrooms, especially popular with night-shift workers who need to darken a room as much as possible during the day and reduce outdoor noise levels so they can sleep during the day.

Though there are no louvers to allow light in when desired, you can swing the panels open to open up your view and let light come streaming in.

Another option is half solid raised panels, so you get the privacy and light-blockage at the bottom, and the movable louvers on top. This gives you the best of both worlds and a unique style.

Yet another option for allowing visibility out of the window and natural light while having the ability to close everything up when you need the privacy or insulation, is a tier-on-tier style solid shutter. You can have the tiers split at the height of your choice, allowing you to open the top tier panels while keeping the bottom closed (or vice versa). This style works best for windows under 60” X 60” given that larger windows mean heavier panels, and tier on tier style often requires additional adjustments for proper panel alignment.

For an added design element, add mid-rails (horizontal solid rails at the height you specify) to create separate sections, allowing you to still add some distinct design to your solid panels.

Make Them Your Own

Choosing wider individually hinged panels will give you clean lines and a super modern look. Choosing to have more panels in each window opening will give you narrower panels that will tuck neatly into one another when the panels are opened.

We offer nickel knobs for any solid panel shutter at no cost, and we give you the choice of us attaching them at the factory end or including them loose in your hardware kit so you can place them wherever you like.

Our solid shutters are available in 10 neutral paint colors, 9 stain colors, and 13 vibrant colors in our Designer Collection (Designer Collection is also available with a high gloss finish). Custom color matching is another option if you don’t find a color you love in our standard color selection.

Though not featured separately on our site, solid panel shutters can also be made in café style. All you need to do is enter the height of the lower section of the window that you wish to cover, and we will be able to revise it to café style on our end which omits the top frame piece and has a smooth finish across the top of the shutter panels, also with no recessed magnets at the top of each panel.

A solid choice, in every sense of the word, raised panel or shaker style shutters are a functional and stylish investment at an affordable DIY price!
