Plantation Shutters on Beach Houses
Many of our customers purchase
plantation shutters for their second homes, seasonal, or vacation properties. What makes plantation shutters the most desirable window treatment for your vacation home or beach house?
A Practical Solution
Plantation shutters are a long-last durable window treatment, and with The Shutter Store’s simplified DIY measure and install process, you cut out the middleman and save money by doing it yourself. DIY beach house shutters can save you 40% or more compared to a full-service measure and install company.
Plus, you can manage the timetable to ensure your shutters arrive on site when you will be present to install them. We offer several product ranges with different manufacturing lead times to fit your project timeline, and we are always flexible with holding a shipment until a specific date to accommodate when our customers are planning to be at their shipping destination address.
Often uninhabited, vacation properties require privacy during a good portion of the year when the home is unattended. Plantation shutter slats close tightly in the upward direction with a ½" overlap on each slat, for ultimate privacy and light blockage. This also insulates your property to regulate the property temperature and minimize the energy need for heating or cooling.
An Aesthetic Dream Come True
Plantation shutters have several design options available so you can tailor them to be as unique as your beach house, and as beautiful as the views waiting on the other side of the window! Choose from multiple slat sizes, a central or hidden tilt rod, multiple paint and stain colors (including custom color matching), and several frame styles for anywhere from a traditional cottage style to a modern contemporary style home.
For beach house shutters, choose a bright white or neutral color like Ivory or Pearl to match any style décor and make the room feel brighter and more open. For that relaxed beachy vibe, why not try pairing sheer curtains with the plantation shutters for a flowy easy look that adds a touch of style. Or pair a café style shutter with a colorful valance for a pop of color and design aesthetic.
Back to those stunning views – your beach house windows should be able to fully display the gorgeous views outside. Our shutter panels do swing open a full 180 degrees allowing you full view out of the windows when the panel doors are open.
You can also opt for larger slats, like our 3 ½" or 4 ½" slats to maximize the visibility when the panels are closed but the slats are open. A hidden tilt rod will also maximize visibility by placing the control rod on the back of the shutter panel. This thin metal rod off to the side near the hinges is not visible from inside the room and does not block any of the view whereas the traditional central tilt rod might.
Waterproof Shutters
For beach house plantation shutters, climate is a factor to consider when choosing the material for your shutters. Given the climate in beach areas, you will likely want to select a waterproof vinyl shutter that will withstand moisture and humidity in the air.
Since
wooden shutters are a natural material, they can absorb moisture which can lead to warping over time if not properly kept dry. Since you may not be around all year long to ensure moisture and condensation does not collect on the shutters, choose from either our Affordable Fauxwood or American Polyvinyl to eliminate any chance of warping.
