How much are DIY Shutters?

One of the main factors that influences the cost of window shutters is whether you want them to be professionally or DIY installed.

Professionally installed shutters require you to pay for the service of a professional installer to come to your home and measure for and fit your shutters.

A full measure and installation service can cost upwards of $40 per square ft. This price will be added onto the overall cost you pay alongside the materials, window size and shutter style costs.

At The Shutter Store, we’ve gone down the DIY shutters route to reduce the price of wooden shutters for our customers. By measuring and installing your own shutters, you could save over 40% in installation fees.

Our bespoke DIY shutter prices start from as little as $20 per square ft. This means that when buying shutters from us, you’ll be able to save on the cost of shutters versus other companies that work with a professional installation service.

How much are wooden shutters vs other materials?

Another factor that influences the cost of shutters is the materials you want your shutters to be crafted from. There are two main choices of material, wooden shutters or faux wood shutters.

Wooden Shutter Options

Cost Starts From

Luke Wood Shutters

$29ft² (MSRP $74ft²)

American Wood Shutters

$33ft² (MSRP $85ft²)

Wooden shutters (or hardwood shutters) are made from the finest quality Paulownia wood and therefore come with a higher cost than other materials such as faux wood.

However, our American Wood shutters (available in full height shutter style only) crafted from solid Poplar hardwood in our North American facility can be bought cheaper because they are ready to ship in around three weeks.

Faux Wood Shutter Options

Cost Starts From

American Wood Core Shutters

$27ft² (MSRP $68ft²)

Eco Wood Shutters

$24ft² (MSRP $61ft²)

Faux wood shutters are a perfect option if you want a cheaper alternative to wooden shutters. These shutters have the same classic aesthetic as hardwood shutters, but also have waterproof properties too.

Our American Wood Core shutters version are made in North America and engineered with wooden cores within the stiles and rails for added stability. They can be shipped to you in as soon as one to two weeks.

Plus, they’re one of the only shutters on the market that qualify for the Federal Energy Tax Credit scheme, saving you up to $1,200. Available in full height only.

What is the cost of shutters for each style?

The style of shutters that you want also has an impact on the overall cost of your window shutters. We’ve created a helpful table below so you can understand the starting costs for all four of our shutter styles.
