Plantation shutters are super easy to clean – just wipe down with a cloth or feather duster. With the right quality materials (like The Shutter Store’s solid hardwood and solid polyvinyl), they are strong and durable requiring very little maintenance through the years.
There’s good reason why business owners will choose low maintenance shutters for busy, high traffic areas – easy to clean and long lasting!
Shutters versus Other window treatments
Some window coverings can be a pain when it comes to long-term maintenance -
Blinds may require replacement slats frequently, as they can easily bend, tear, crack, or fade. With small and fragile slats, they can be difficult to clean in between each slat without damaging the blinds.
Our plantation shutters are UV coated and made to withstand high heat and direct sunlight without yellow, fading, or cracking. With solid materials and less moving parts than blinds, louvered shutters are very easy to keep clean.
Bring on the sunshine! Unlike other window treatments, shutters will not get damaged by the sun.
Curtains and fabric roller shades collect a lot of dust and are difficult to reach or take down for cleaning. Depending on the material, they may not be machine washable, and may require you to take them to a dry cleaner.
Shutters are a great solution for allergies because they do not attract pet hair or dust, and in fact they insulate your home against the elements.
High-End and Low Maintenance
Plantation shutters give you many benefits, and they ask for so little in return. Benefits of interior shutters include:
- Blocking heat and cold to reduce energy costs
- Privacy
- Keeping out sunlight for a better night’s sleep
- Noise reduction
- Increasing property value
- Long-term beauty
- Eco-Friendly
- Custom window shutters match your style aesthetic and fit your window like a glove
Create a high-end look that increases your property value, even for special shaped or curved bay windows.
As with any long-term investment in your home, a little TLC over time will keep your shutters good as new. Check out the Maintenance section of our
video library to see helpful tips when it comes to shutter maintenance such as adjusting slat tension.
Do different shutter materials and styles require different maintenance?
All our shutter styles are easy to maintain – no harsh chemicals or cleaning products are needed. A microfiber cloth or any duster will do to keep the shutters clean.
The maintenance tips shown in our video library apply to all shutter materials and styles.
Full height shutters will require the least amount of adjustments over time, when it comes to adjusting hinges or magnets to keep your panels aligned, when ordered with a 4-sided shutter frame.
Tier on tier style shutters may require the most adjustments over time to keep the shutter panels aligned – especially the top tier panels which are fighting gravity to stay in place.
If your shutters will be installed an area exposed to water (like near a sink, shower, or tub), choose a
waterproof vinyl shutter like our Affordable Fauxwood or American Polyvinyl ranges. This way you will not need to worry about keeping the shutters dry.
Don’t worry about any splashes of water on your vinyl shutters!
