FAQs About Wood Shutters

Our wood shutters are crafted from premium hardwoods selected for their strength, stability, and finish quality. Luxe Wood shutters are made from sustainable Paulownia, a fine-grained, knot-free hardwood that's approximately 30% lighter than comparable hardwoods, making it ideal for larger windows and doors. Our American Wood range uses North American Poplar, chosen for its smooth grain and exceptional ability to hold a painted finish. Both woods take paint and stain beautifully, and the natural grain of each shutter gives it a character that no manufactured material can replicate.

It depends on the room. Real wood shutters, like our Luxe Wood and American Wood ranges, offer an authentic grain, a furniture-quality finish, and a warmth that's hard to replicate. They're the natural choice for living rooms, bedrooms, and dining rooms where the look and feel of the material matters.

Faux wood (vinyl) shutters are the smarter choice for kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, and any space where moisture is a regular presence. Several of our faux wood (vinyl) ranges, including American Vinyl, American Wood Core, and Luxe Polyvinyl, are 100% waterproof, meaning they'll hold their shape and finish in conditions that would eventually affect a natural wood shutter.

If the room is dry and the look of real wood matters to you, wood shutters are hard to beat. If durability and moisture resistance are the priority, our faux wood ranges deliver a premium result without the compromise.

We'd recommend against solid wood shutters in bathrooms due to the high humidity. Wood can warp or crack over time in steamy conditions. For bathrooms, faux wood shutters are a much better choice as they're moisture-resistant and built to last without any risk of warping.

Wipe your wooden shutters down with a dry or lightly damp microfiber cloth. Avoid using excessive water or harsh chemical cleaners, as these can damage the finish over time. A feather duster works great for day-to-day dusting between deeper cleans. Check out our how to clean shutters guide for full details.

It depends on the range. Our American-made wood shutters are the fastest. American Wood ships in 2–3 weeks and Eco Wood in 3–4 weeks. Luxe Wood is crafted overseas to a higher level of customization and typically ships in 10–12 weeks. Check out our product lead times for full details.

Why Choose Custom Wooden Shutters for Your Windows?

Cost Effective

Not only will you save money by DIY installing, shutters can also provide insulation to help bring down energy bills. Real wood is a naturally insulating material, and shutters fitted snugly within your window recess create an effective barrier against drafts and heat loss, helping to keep your home comfortable year-round.

Complement All Interior Styles

Naturally beautiful, real wooden shutters add character and warmth to any room. Timeless and versatile, they complement both traditional and contemporary styles. Whether your home is a classic colonial, a modern farmhouse or a sleek contemporary space, wooden shutters enhance the interior without ever feeling out of place.

Suitable for Any Shutter Style

Wooden shutters can be made into any of our shutter styles, full height, tier on tier, café style and solid raised shutters. This makes them one of the most flexible window treatment options available, adaptable to any window size, shape or room type.

A Permanent Fixture That Adds Real Value to Your Home

Unlike curtains or blinds, wooden shutters are considered a permanent fixture rather than a removable accessory. That distinction matters when it comes to your home's value. Real estate agents consistently report that plantation shutters are one of the window treatment choices that buyers respond most positively to, signaling quality, care and a well-finished interior. In a competitive market, details like this can make a real difference. Wooden shutters in particular carry an added premium over vinyl alternatives, given the natural material and craftsmanship involved. They're an investment that enhances your home both while you live in it and when it comes time to sell.

Built to Last a Lifetime

High quality solid wood shutters, properly finished and maintained, can last for the lifetime of your home. Unlike fabric blinds that fray, curtains that fade, or cheap shutters that warp and crack, our wooden shutters are built from 100% solid timber, never hollow or composite, and treated to withstand heat, sunlight and daily use without deteriorating. The 5-year warranty is the starting point, not the limit.

Better for the Environment

Our wooden shutter ranges are made from timber sourced from well-managed forests, making them a more sustainable choice than synthetic window treatments. Paulownia, used in our Luxe Wood range, is one of the fastest-growing hardwoods available, making it a particularly eco-conscious material. And because our shutters are built to last for decades, there's far less waste than you'd generate replacing cheaper window treatments every few years.
