If you want to cover the entire window opening, full height shutters are the most cost-effective option. Adding a mid-rail to full height shutters to separate the upper and lower sections of slats is also more affordable than ordering tier on tier shutters with separate upper and lower panels.

If you do not need complete coverage or light blockage, cafe style shutters are a great cost-saving option. Since shutters are priced per square foot, covering only the lower portion of the window means a lower overall price.

Choose the Right Material

Polyvinyl shutters are more cost-effective than wooden shutters. Durable and fully waterproof, they are a great choice for any window except special shapes like arches or circles, or if you specifically want a visible wood grain stain finish.

Our American-made ranges are also available in a standard or express option. If your project can wait the extra few weeks, choosing standard over express keeps the cost lower. Our imported ranges take a little longer to arrive but may also offer a lower starting price point.

Choose Standard Design Options

Some design choices carry a small surcharge. To keep costs down, consider:

• Central tilt rod over hidden tilt rod

• Painted finish over stained finish

• L-Frame over Z-Frame or Deco Frame

• Inside mount over outside mount — since outside mount shutters are larger to account for the frame width, they cost slightly more

To spread the cost, prioritise which windows need shutters most and order in stages. Consider which windows get the most direct sunlight, face a busy street, or need the most privacy, and start there.
