We only sell wood shutters. No fauxwood shutters, no MDF shutters, no composite shutters at all. Plantation shutters are an investment and should last a lifetime. The wood used to make your shutters is FSC certified, giving you piece of mind, the wood used in construction of your shutters does not harm the environment.

Well, because they are cheap. We don't mean cheap in a low cost way, we mean cheap in a tacky way. Just stop by a store that sells real quality wood shutters (around $25 per square foot) and touch them. Then touch and tap the fauxwood shutters that sell for around $15 per square meter. No comparison is there? Wood shutters will last longer, they won't fade and discolor as plastic shutters are prone to and are overall, a much better investment.

MDF Shutters or LDF Shutters are a fairly recent product in America. MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) and LDF (Light Density Fiberboard) is a material made from the waste byproduct of real wood. Essentially, sawdust and glue compressed together. Shutters made using MDF are sprayed with a plastic coating, not properly painted. MDF/LDF shutters are in the opinion and experience of The Shutter Store Inc, a bad investment. The plastic coated peels from the MDF, the MDF can swell around the hinge and louver tilt points in short, MDF shutters don't have the same lifespan as real wood shutters.

Your shutters are manufactured and delivered with pretty much everything you'll need to ensure a simple shutter installation. The shutter frames, the shutter panels, the hinges, magnets, the screws (to suit most typical installations) nothing extra is generally required.

In short no. Making shutters really is an art form and genuine craft. Sure you could have a box of wood and screws delivered and you could try and paint then and try to install. However really (and trust us on this one) the results will not be as good as if a professional does this. We have state of the art facilities and well refined techniques that have produced thousands and thousands of shutters for many delighted customers. So our advice? Leave it to the experts.

Using a 2 pack paint, which is sprayed many different layers, the panels are subject to a rigorous quality control procedure. All shutters are rubbed down and finely sanded at several stages throughout the manufacture process to give a simply stunning finish when complete. The stains and paints are all coated with a UV protective sealant to keep the shutters from fading.
