Real wood means that the shutters are not plastic and not made from composite materials such as MDF (MDF is compacted sawdust bound together with glue). Poplar and Elm woods can be selected as the wood type when you order your shutters. Both are equally good quality, with elm shutters costing slightly more per square foot then poplar shutters.
