Wood shutters vs poly shutters. "Should I buy shutters made of wood? Are poly shutters better than wooden plantation shutters?"
This is one of the most commonly asked questions of customers buying plantation shutters online on our website. There is no clear answer as both ranges and material types are equally as good and our shutters are made using the latest manufacturing techniques and use high quality materials (aluminum core in the poly shutters slats and stiles and our wood shutters made from top quality FSC approved wood).
Poly shutters are typically only sold in white and shades of off white. Some companies do offer the ability to paint polyvinyl shutters but painting a faux shutter like this is not something we advise. The surface of the poly material just does not have the adhesion attributes that wood offers. Therefore, if you're looking to buy a shutter in a color other than white and, naturally if you are looking for a stain, then you have to opt for wood.
It's important to point out that you should read carefully what claims other companies make when discussing wood shutters vs poly shutters. Some sites trying to push poly sales claim that wood will warp, twist and discolor. Quite simply, that is not true if you buy a quality product made using good wood. Equally, if you buy a low grade vinyl shutter these will not stand the test of time.
What do you think these shutters are made from? They are actually made from wood. They are painted white, have 3 1/2" shutter blades and look stunning in this library setting. However, from a distance, these shutters could just as easily be made from polyvinyl.
