It's been a very busy couple of months with a lot of work going on behind the scenes getting everything set up for the launch of The Shutter Store in November. While we've just started to relay our daily activity about establishing our US shutters business via our website, there's been quite a bit of activity leading up to this point. Our shutters news stories on the site will aim to convey much of what we've been up to.

However one point that's often mentioned to us is that we must be crazy to start up our shutters business during a recession. So...we thought this was a good place to explain to our shutters customers why we're doing this.

First thing to say is that we're not quite, strictly speaking, a start up. The Shutter Store Inc is a new company but is linked to 2 large UK based shutter companies Shutterly Fabulous and The California Shutter Company. Both companies are market leaders in the shutter world in their own right and myself and Mark Carter, President of The Shutter Store, have years of experience in the plantation shutters business and running successful companies.

Our shutters are unique in many respects and are sold online, via The California Shutters Company in a way that has revolutionlized shutter sales in Europe. We have a strong partnership with B&Q, the UK's largest Home Improvement / DIY retailer (think Home Depot but in Europe). We make it simple for our customers to measure, order and install their shutters. In return for a little do-it-yourself, our customers get to purchase premium quality shutters and enjoy cost savings versus regular 'store bought' shutters.

We feel that while companies like www.blinds.com sell shutters online, they're not shutters specialists. Shutters are still an investment for your home and we've proven that exceptionally high levels of customer service and assistance can be provided via our website, over the phone and email. We know that when measuring your windows to self install your shutters or blinds, it's imperative the measurements are correct. That's why it's important work with a specialist. The Shutter Store will give our US customers the opportunity to shop online in the same way that we've grown our online, DIY shutters companies in Europe.

So - not quite a start up, but more expanding our business operations in a recession. It's a good time as we've been able to find some great deals on commercial property and will be employing US staff to operate the business. We've come across some great people who are keen to work and by investing on opening the business now, we've got a wonderful opportunity to help bring talented American people back into the workforce.

We're financially secure, have a great, successful business model in the UK and mainland Europe, and look forward to bringing our shutters to the US.

A recession while extremely painful for individuals and businesses alike, have been an opportunity to look at all areas of our business, our shutters manufacturing facility and our plans for the future. We've made changes including cutting costs where needed, but investing in areas to make sure we're strong and successful as we start to come out the other side.

We're therefore very excited to be growing and expanding our shutters business over in the US.
