Shutters that will be sold by The Shutter Store are made in a way which is mindful of the environmental impact of our manufacturing. As such, we try to steer clear of fauxwood vinyl shutters which are less than ideal in terms of environmental impact.

Wood shutters are by far the best type of shutters - properly manufactured wooden shutters, made using the best manufacturing techniques, will ensure your shutters last a lifetime. However, don't think that just because the shutters are made of wood, therefore from trees that have been cut down, that they have a negative impact on the environment. Sure there are a lot of shutters our there that have been made using illegally harvested wood but it is possible to make shutters from premium grade hardwoods and still be environmentally responsible.

Today was therefore a great step for The Shutter Store USA as we were given our approval by the US Forest Stewardship Council that confirms the shutters that we sell are made from reliably sourced hardwood that meets the strict requirements of the FSC.

The Forest Stewardship Council is a not for profit, non government organization, that promotes responsible forest management. In short, the forests have been managed in way that does not negatively impact the environment.

Gaining full FSC Chain of Custody is a very lengthy process and you can be sure that as our shutters are made by manufacturing that has full FSC COC certification, the shutters you buy, quite literally, don't cost the earth.
